Whatever your musical tastes, “A World of Music” is a must-see show. The concert, taking place at the Auditorium in Santa Cruz on 29th March, fuses music styles from all over the globe.
“The language of music needs no words” - this is the notion behind the concert, which will explore the universal language of music by blending diverse musical influences - each bringing their own unique qualities to the mix. During the 20th Century, cultures have merged to astonishing effect. As with mixing colours, when different styles of ethnic music interweave, the result is a multitude of tones - a delight for the ear!
The event will feature artists from various international locations including Los Angeles, Cádiz, Singapore, Senegal, Norway, Germany, and the Canary Islands.

“We came through two huge storms, had a flooded cabin and had to be towed in against wind and tide for the last two miles but the effort was truly worthwhile.”
Atlantic rowers Peter Raab and Tim Wilks, aboard the Tenerife boat Martha Dos, arrived in Antigua, in the Caribbean, at 3.30pm last Tuesday after a 59-day journey across the ocean.
They left Puerto Colon, where Peter runs a boat sales and chandlery, on December 8, clipping two days off the boat’s previous fastest time, set by Tenerife residents, lawyer Pedro Ripol and commercial pilot Francisco Korff in 2001.
And they overtook half the pack of 20 boats that left La Gomera six days before them in an organised race across the Atlantic.
Peter and Tim, rowing independently in aid of the Tenerife charities Asociacion Orobal and San Lazaro expect to have raised several thousand euros with their achievement.
For Peter it was “my last bit of wild life” before he and his wife, Claudine, settle down to family life with a Chinese baby they have been planning to adopt.
Teenager, Rebecca Berry, 18, of Downs Lane, Hetton, was arrested and charged by HM Customs and Revenue officers for trying to smuggle 16,600 cigarettes through East Midlands Airport from a flight from Tenerife.
She pleaded guilty to smuggling the cigarettes and evading duty of £2,678 when she arrived at the airport on February 11 from Tenerife.
Loughborough Magistrates’ Court ordered Berry a six month curfew which requires her to stay at her home address between 8pm and 8am, enforced by tagging. The court was also awarded £250 costs.
She was detected at Newcastle Airport in January this year with 16,600 cigarettes and at Heathrow Airport in May 2007 trying to smuggle 17,000 cigarettes into the UK.
On both occasions, the goods were seized and a verbal warning was given, as well as warning letters.
Speaking after Berry’s court appearance, John Macmillan, detection manager for HM Revenue and Customs at East Midlands Airport, said: “We hope this sends a clear message to those involved in cigarette smuggling that we will take action to seize the goods and also to bring criminal proceedings.
“We hope the reality that individuals will receive a criminal record and the courts can impose a range of sentences, including prison, will act as a firm deterrent.”
He added: “We have active and robust teams operating at East Midlands airport and will not hesitate to take action against those dealing in this form of criminality.
“The illicit cigarette trade breeds contempt for the law by encouraging otherwise honest people to trade with criminals and undermines genuine, honest retailers.”
Anyone with information about people importing or dealing in smuggled cigarettes is asked to contact the Customs Confidential Hotline, tel. 0800 59 5000.

It is not known whether Alcampo plan to appeal.
